One of the main problems I see when helping Squarespace users is the enormous amount of 404 errors found in Google Webmaster tools. Usually, they either have very few if any, or they have half as many error pages as they do blog posts. In this workshop, we’ll walk you through what you need to know to get started. Each of these workshops is tailored with the small business owner, photographer, and blogger in mind, but all that we cover can be applied to a multitude of industries.
In this first of several Squarespace Workshops, you learn the basics of setting up your website from scratch. Unless you are completely new to the platform, you can probably skip this class. That’s not to say that it’s bad or anything, just that it’s a very cursory overview of the inner workings of the Squarespace software. I’ve outlined the main points the instructor hit on and added notes to certain items I thought might deserve some helpful tips. This write-up is more of an outline to let you see if it’s worth 45 min of your life. I don’t go in too much detail as I think the Squarespace help docs are enough to get you started with these basic concepts. However, I will be elaborating more on future workshops. Yes, it’s possible to move your site from Tumblr to Squarespace v5 in less than five minutes. However, it may take a few more minutes depending on your knowledge of Tumblr, WordPress, and Squarespace. Fortunately, I hope to make it super simple with this easy DIY tutorial! If you are wanting to import your blog from WordPress to Squarespace, scroll down and start from the Squarespace sub-heading. Also, Squarespace v6 has a Tumblr import option so this tutorial is not needed if you are using it.

UPDATE 7/2012: I’ve noticed this page is getting a lot of traffic since the official Squarespace 6 launch. However, things work a bit different than they did in beta so some of the tips you see will not be available or have been modified. IF you are trying to decide on the best Squarespace 6 theme or template, check out the Squarespace 6 Templates Project page which includes a handy dandy chart with links to all the themes with their corresponding help pages.
So you’re trying to figure out which Squarespace template will work best for your new Squarespace v.6 beta blog. But switching templates just to try them out may wreak havoc on your already saved hard work.
