Squarespace Qubert Theme Readme Page

The angels have come down from heaven and finally blessed us with Read Me Pages.

Read Me Pages?” you ask. “What the heck are you talking about Holly?! Have you gone mad!”

“Nope, I’ve gone happy!” I exclaim.

Free Squarespace 6 Trial for Everyone!

Free Squarespace 6 Trials | From Beta to Preview

I was able to start a Squarespace 6 trial today without an invite! Yeah! The signup process is very similar to v5 in that all you need to enter is- your name, email address, and subdomain to create a website. I just happen to be in the process of updating the Squarespace 6 template directory  (errr, in all the excitement I’m still “in the process” of updating…so give me a bit to get the new stuff up please!) with the new theme variations and decided I’d go ahead and check out progress of the sign-up page. Lo’ and behold, I was able to create a new Squarespace 6 website. I even tested it out on another browser just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. So get cracking everyone!

New Squarespace 6 Videos and Help Documents

Squarespace 6 beta is making steady improvements. They now have a help section devoted to Squarespace v6 Squarespace 6 Help Videos and Pages photo with instructional videos and more FAQs. Topics include help with galleries, changing templates, importing content to Squarespace, mapping a domain and a range of general settings tips. It’s not near as extensive as the version 5 help, but it’s a great start. I personally find the videos the most helpful if you are just starting as a beta tester. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I tend to stumble on to these things. Perhaps this has been available for a while? I think there needs to be a better change tracker tool so everyone is on the same page about when new features become available. Until then, keep checking back or follow the Squarespace Plugins RSS feed!

Using LESS for Squarespace 6 CSS Development

Less Dynamic Stylesheet Language

Rumor has it that Squarespace v6 will use LESS (client side method I assume) for CSS developement. Alex Ball at Developer Drive is doing a blog series on how to use LESS and why you will love it. I guess I’ll have to take his word for it.

Today, I’m proud to start a series of posts that will focus on LESS, the dynamic language that takes your CSS and puts it on steroids. LESS let’s you use variables, mixins, nested rules, and even functions within your CSS. It’s extremely powerful and can dramatically speed up your development. There is a little bit of a learning curve to it, but once you wrap your head around it, you won’t type CSS again without using LESS.

Check out the first lesson in the series- Learning Less: and Introduction at http://www.developerdrive.com/2012/04/learning-less-an-introduction/

Official Squarespace Designer using Squarespace v6

Pink_Cocoa

Official Squarespace Designer and Specialists

For those that may be getting frustrated with the nuances of Squarespace v6, I found one of the Official Squarespace Specialists using v6 not only for his personal site but also for his brand. He seems to have mastered the platform already! As many of you know, not all the features have been made available yet so it’s kind of hard trying to hack our way into getting what we want out of it.  (Can I get an Amen?!)
