Squarespace For Dummies – OMG!

Squarespace for Dummies Ebook

Squarespace for Dummies on your Amazon Kindle

I came across this Squarespace For Dummies Squarespace For Dummies OMG! photo book last night on Amazon! I was skeptical at first because there are so many of these books that seem to be a real for Dummies book and turns out they just rephrase or flat out misspell the series to trick people into buying their flim flam 10 page essay on whatever they are trying to peddle at the moment. However, this is not the case for Kris Black’s Squarespace for Dummies Book. Kris has been creating websites with Squarespace since 2004, has his own design company, and worked for Squarespace as a customer support specialist. As a bonus, he’s also a fellow South Cackalackian.

Squarespace Case Study | SEO, Categories, and Robots.txt

You better check your site, before you wreck your site

Ok, perhaps I’ve overstated myself a bit with that headline, but I do want to bring something to your attention that I think is very important about how Squarespace directs search engines to crawl your website. We all have a robots.txt file which guides search engines like google to index your site and essentially how your website is found and viewed by searchers.

The Back(end) Story

This week I hope you notice something different about this blog. I r-e-a-l-l-y hope that you notice an increase in response time when visiting the Squarespace Plugins website. For the past month (and really longer than that to be honest), we have had quite a bit of down time along with super slow response and load times. You may or may not be aware that this little ‘ol blog runs on WordPress right now. (do I hear gasps coming across the internets?!) I know, the hypocrisy, right?! The thing is, for over a year this site was simply a test install on a server while teaching homeschool students about Squarespace and WordPress. It didn’t even have a domain! Then, about six months ago I bought the Squarespace Plugins domain in response to all the-

Squarespace Workshop: Getting Started with Squarespace

UPDATE: I’m converting my workshop outlines into PDF format: Getting Started Outline PDF

Squarespace 101

In this workshop, we’ll walk you through what you need to know to get started. Each of these workshops is tailored with the small business owner, photographer, and blogger in mind, but all that we cover can be applied to a multitude of industries.

300x2501 275x229 Squarespace Workshop: Getting Started with Squarespace photoIn this first of several Squarespace Workshops, you learn the basics of setting up your website from scratch. Unless you are completely new to the platform, you can probably skip this class. That’s not to say that it’s bad or anything, just that it’s a very cursory overview of the inner workings of the Squarespace software. I’ve outlined the main points the instructor hit on and added notes to certain items I thought might deserve some helpful tips.  This write-up is more of an outline to let you see if  it’s worth 45 min of your life. I don’t go in too  much detail as I think the Squarespace help docs are enough to get you started with these basic concepts.  However,  I will be elaborating more on future workshops. You can view the example website, http://paulinagram.squarespace.com/settings-for-getting-started/  which includes other helpful links that cover the material learned in the workshop. You can sign up for this workshop here or view a previously recorded version here.

Official Squarespace Webinar Series

Squarespace Live Workshops

Squarespace is a continual learning process for me. I don’t claim to know everything about the website building software (not even close!) and like many of you, unless it’s something I’m specifically looking for, I may not even discover all the cool things it can do. So, this week I’ve signed up for every single Official Squarespace Webinar. It looks like they may have added a few new ones recently. After attending each 30 minute Webinar, I’ll write-up a post letting you know in general terms what you’ll learn and/or go over in the class.  The workshops are live so each session may or may not cover everything that is mentioned in the specific class I’m attending.
