Free Squarespace 6 Website for current Squarespace v5 Users

Squarespace 6 Pricing Plans.

From the looks of the new Squarespace Six Pricing page, v6 will have the same pricing plans as version 5. However, current v5 users will be allowed one free Squarespace 6 website. It seems one would have more choices and flexibility if they just sign up for a regular account since you essentially get the v6 site for free? I suppose the downside would be that you would not be able to use your custom domain with v6?

Another thing to consider if you decide to move to v6, is that if you were using the squarespace subdomain (eg yoursite.squarespace.com), you will need to redirect all your urls to the new sqsp.com domain. Unless Squarespace does this automatically (not just mapping but redirecting ), this will require that you keep the original v5 account and manually redirect all your urls (ouch!) using the url redirect tool. Otherwise, all the links to your website will no longer work UPDATE: Squarespace 6 accounts are now using the squarespace.com domain.

How long are your contracts?

Squarespace plans are month-to-month, yearly, or two years. We make it simple to start — and stop — your service at any time.

No. All Squarespace plans include our fully-managed cloud hosting, ensuring your website remains available at all times.

Can I download Squarespace?

No. Squarespace is a fully-managed web service. We do not have plans to make a downloadable version. Squarespace does provide many standard methods for exporting your data.

Do you offer email accounts?

While Squarespace does not provide email accounts, you can easily link your domain to Google Apps and get free email.

How do I sign up?

You start with a free trial. We don’t collect your credit card until you’ve determined Squarespace is the right product for you.

How do I cancel service?

Canceling Squarespace is an easy and no-questions-asked process. It’s done online right from your site manager.

What is meant by unlimited?

Certain Squarespace packages do not have resource limits for normal usage. As per our Terms of Service, sites cannot exist for the sole purpose of file sharing.

What if I’m an existing Squarespace customer?

Your service will continue uninterrupted. Current Squarespace customers can link their paid Squarespace 5 account to one Squarespace 6 account. As long as your Squarespace 5 account remains active, you can keep your Squarespace 6 site for free. You can explore the new system on your own timeline, and test importing your data. If and when you want to make the switch, you’ll simply redirect your domain.
