From the Squarespace Free Domain Faq, a couple of important questions to note:
Who gets a free domain?
All customers who sign up for an annual or bi-yearly accounts are eligible for a free domain through Squarespace.
What if I already have a yearly or bi-yearly account with Squarespace?
You are eligible for a free domain as well.
How do I set up email for my domain?
While Squarespace does not provide email service directly, we provide a very simple method for pointing your domain to Google Apps, which will give you completely free web-based email that works just like Gmail. You can do this right from your Squarespace account interface without having to set up complex records or use another interface.
Squarespace Standard Plan
Let’s break down the cost for a Standard Subscription Plan:
Annual: $96 – 10% Squarespace Coupon (GIMME10) = $86.40 ($7.20/mo)
Bi-Annual: $180 – 10% Squarespace Coupon (GIMME10) = $162 ($6.75/mo)
Squarespace Unlimited Plan
And now the cost for the Unlimited Plan:
Annual: $192 – 10% Squarespace Coupon (GIMME10) = $172.90 ($14.41/mo)
Bi-Annual: $360 – 10% Squarespace Coupon (GIMME10) = $324 ($13.50/mo)
Good Value
With the free domain name registration that Squarespace is now offering, the value of these plans gets so much better. Because domain registration costs on average $10-$20, especially with private whois registration, it’s equal to about an extra $1 per month savings. You’re now very close to the cost of a shared hosting account that is used for platforms like WordPress.
But with Squarespace, you not only get the website building software, but the super reliable grid hosting. Your site is not limited to one server with Squarespace. If a node or server goes down, no worries because your site is hosted across the grid. These plans will not only save you money, but more importantly, the time and frustration that’s so prevalent with self hosting.
