IMG 7055 2 275x206 About photoA resource for DIY Squarespace users who want access to plug-in-like capabilities. No, there is technically not plug-in-play options like WordPress. (Yet, anyways!) However, there are still options for many of the same features that WordPress plugins offer.

Although not as simple to implement as WordPress plugins, many of the same capabilities can be obtained by simply copying and pasting snippets of code and inserting them in the correct location of your code. The most common places include the Squarespace Website Management and Editing Modules while in your browser. Desktop blog clients, Windows Live Writer and MarsEdit also provide feature rich editing of posts and pages. My experience is with WLW which has several plugins that will make many tasks automatic. (eg. interlinking to previous posts).

And although the official Help Docs and Developer forums are excellent resources, they are excruciating to search. Help docs require too many clicks to get information and in the forums, there is no easy way to filter queries. (If they would only filter by date, it would make life so much easier! But I digress…)

Last, you may wonder why this site about Squarespace isn’t even using the Squarespace platform!? Great Question! I started this as a resource for myself and others that I have referred to Squarespace. Unfortunately, you pay for each site that uses the squarespace software (which only runs on their servers) and since this is one of many of my hair-brained experiments, I’m using my existing hosting company and WordPress. To simplify… IT’s FREE!  [ETA 6 Months Later: Free? Ha! What was I thinking. The time I've spent updating WP , Plugins, and barring off hackers has far exceeded any Squarespace subscription fees!]  To clarify, my “real” Squarespace website is my fulltime travel blog, FoggyPhils. My family has been traveling throughout North America in an RV since 2009 while volunteering in local, state, and national parks. I homeschool three teenagers (!!!) as well mentoring a  homeschool group with a mission to teach kids how to create and develop their own websites and blogs.

DISCLAIMER: Squarespace Plugins is in no way associated with the official Squarespace website or company. We simply love the website building software and created this site to educate others who may also be interested in using Squarespace now or in the future. We are an affiliate of Squarespace so if you purchase a subscription through one of our links, we receive a small commission (the majority of which goes back into creating more content for this website…oh, and to pay the fine for the speeding ticket I got back in March!) Thanks for supporting Squarespace Plugins!
